the profit of stupidity

William Shakespeare, ventriloquizing via Queen Gertrude: “More matter, with less art.”
Mies van der Rohe, echoing Robert Browning’s Andrea del Sarto: “Less is more.”
Frank Lloyd Wright, dissing the boss of Bauhaus: “Less is only more where more is no good.”
Hendrik Hertzberg, twitting a birther butthead: “For Trump, thinking less and less seems to be working more and more from week to week.”

All kidding aside, we owe The Donald a debt of gratitude for putting an end to idiotic rumors that distracted Barack H. Obama from his true calling of establishing himself as the worst POTUS since Warren G. Harding sucking up to investment bankers, shilling for insurance companies, debasing himself before religious fanatics, and embroiling our country in interminable foreign adventures.

    1. W pissed off ineffectual nincompoops. Whereas Obama is bringing forth a tidal wave of reactionary fuckwittery bound to bedevil my country for decades to come.

        1. Obama’s escalation of W’s Wall Street bailouts, his mollycoddling of “savvy businessmen” responsible for trillion dollar losses, and his eponymous health insurance industry boondoggle are pissing off millions of middle class voters irrespectively of trickle-down machinations by nefarious billionaires. I fail to see how his being a half-smart social climber adept at bending over for Lloyd Blankfein whilst kowtowing to King Faisal and shilling for Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is connected to his skin pigmentation. As for the continuity of policies, blaming the United States for being a victim of terrorism is an innovation of the current administration.

          1. So, the rise of reactionary fuckwittery is due to Obama being too friendly to Wall Street. Now really.

Speaking in 2009 onboard a pricey Mediterranean cruise sponsored by a right-wing college, Fox Washington managing editor Bill Sammon described his attempts the previous year to link Obama to “socialism” as “mischievous speculation.” Sammon, who is also a Fox News vice president, acknowledged that “privately” he had believed that the socialism allegation was “rather far-fetched.”

I don’t know whether Obama is really blaming the United States for being a victim of terrorism,- seems rather inconsistent with his smooth media style. It is, however, a sure fact that outside the reach of Fox News, any sympathy for the US as a victim of terrorism was quite gone as a result of invasion of Iraq.

            1. Obama’s White House has long declared itself outside the reach of Fox News. According to you, outside the reach of Fox News, any sympathy for the US as a victim of terrorism was quite gone as a result of invasion of Iraq. It follows that by your lights, in Obama’s White House, any sympathy for the US as a victim of terrorism was quite gone as a result of invasion of Iraq. Many of his Western critics take this as the starting point of their opposition to Obama’s profession of American self-hatred.

              1. “Outside the reach of Fox News” refers to the public opinion. The view that terrorist attacked the US because “they hate US liberties” is a propaganda cliche, and no American senior policymaker is likely to believe such tripe.

                1. The view that rapists commit their crimes because “they hate women” is no less of a propaganda cliché. Nonetheless, blaming the victim, let alone proffering apologies to the perpetrator, is way uncool in either case.

                  1. Well, if a rape victim got a shotgun, few grenades, flamethrower and let loose on the rapist’s neighbors, while avoiding his house, the analogy would have been complete. For the crimes of Saudi hijackers, who hatched their conspiracy largely in Germany, somehow Iraqi and Afgani peasants are being held accountable.

                    1. Taking the fight abroad works well for me. As James Ellroy will be all too happy to explain to you, we Americans love to compartmentalize.
